Garenne is the proud sponsor of Monika Markowska Full Contact WAKO Kickboxing World Champion.

Monika Markowska - 4th degree black belt from Cho’s Tae Kwon Do Jersey, was this year selected to represent Great Britain in the Full Contact WAKO Kickboxing World Championships in -52kg Division and she is just back from an exciting week in Ireland, having made her dreams come true by bringing back the Gold medal. She is now ranked as the No 1 fighter in her weight division in the world.

What makes her achievement even more remarkable, is that she is the first female Full Contact fighter, ever to win a World Title for the Great Britain.  It is Monika’s first year representing Team GB, Monika was coached by former World WAKO Full Contact Champion  Dev Barret, who won the title in 1983.Great Britain took 26th athletes to compete against fighters from all over the world.

Monika said “All year I have trained so hard to achieve my dream, training 7 days a week, twice a day and totally devoting myself to preparation for the World WAKO Full Contact Championships, I have travelled most weekends to England and Ireland to train with the best coaches and to spar with the best fighters. Having experience of training for 18 years in Tae kwon Do, this year I also had added boxing and Thai-boxing skills to my arsenal.

One of Monika’s proudest moments, ever, was standing on the podium, with the British flag draped around her and being presented with the gold medal and World Championship Belt, listening to the national anthem, with the British flag and her name on the big screen behind her saying Monika Markowska, WAKO World Champion – “it’s absolutely priceless...”

As well as her rigourous training regime, Monika is also studying for ACCA Accountancy qualifications and works full time for the Garenne Group, based in the Garenne Jersey Office.
