Garenne Group Team of Eight to support Marathon Man in his 40 day Challenge

A TEAM of eight runners will accompany Stuart Hardie on his challenge to complete 40 marathons in 40 days, for one day.

Supported by the Garenne Group Andy Hall, John Waterman, Russell Bailey, David Stuart, Ian Carre, Richard Moore, Richard Lee and James Travers hope to raise £25,000 combined.

The group will accompany Mr Hardie on his leg from Stoke St Mary, Taunton, Somerset, moving south by minor roads through Combe, ending at Broadembury, Devon.

‘We are delighted to be supporting Stuart not only by covering the cost to send a team of eight runners to join him on one of his legs, but through our fundraising efforts and the aim to reach £25,000,’ saidAndy Hall chief executive of the Garenne Group.

‘Each of us has been training in our own way to help prepare for our run with Stuart, but nothing can compare to the gruelling journey he will have already made once we get there.’

Mr Hardie is attempting to raise £1m. by running from John O’Groats in Scotland to Lands End in Cornwall with the bulk of the money going to the children’s rugby charity Wooden Spoon.

Mr Hardie set off on his challenge on Tuesday 20 September and intends to arrive at his destination on Saturday 29 October.

'I have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of islanders and cannot express how grateful I am to the Garenne Group and the eight members of staff who will be running with me on Saturday 22 October,’ said Mr Hardie.

'I will be nearing the end of my run when the lads join me and it will be great have their support and physical presence on the day.’

MrHardie said the Wooden Spoon was a charity close to his heart as he was involved in setting it up 10 years ago.

Money raised by Mr Hardie will also go to Hope for Guernsey, Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation and Young People Guernsey.
